EAS Audio releases TapeStop, a freeware tape-stop effect plugin in VST3 plugin format for digital audio workstations on Windows.
TapeStop is a simple audio utility for emulating the slowdown and speed-up effects that are heard when you stop or play a reel-to-reel tape machine. It is also known as a tape-stop or vinyl-stop effect.
You’ve definitely heard this effect before. The pitch slowly drops while playback grinds to a halt. It can be used as an effective way to end a track, a transition into a song breakdown, or a creative effect on vocals, guitars, and drum loops.
While you can achieve the tape-stop effect with a pitch shifter plugin and an automation curve in your DAW, it’s convenient to use a utility plugin that is tailor-made for this purpose. Instead of drawing automation curves, you can trigger the plugin to achieve the same effect.
TapeStop also enables you to synchronize the tape-stop effect to your project’s tempo. You can align the effect to your host’s grid and adjust the note value so that the effect aligns perfectly with the rest of the track.
Another benefit of using the TapeStop plugin, as opposed to an actual reel-to-reel tape machine (as if we all have one casually sitting around in the studio), is that the audio track will remain aligned with your project when you restart playback.
TapeStop is a well-made and straightforward plugin worth downloading if you want a simple and effective tape-stop utility. It is EAS Audio’s first plugin release, making us wonder what this developer has in store for us going forward. Their first plugin shows plenty of promise.
Windows users will need a VST3-compatible plugin host to use TapeStop. Unfortunately, the plugin isn’t compatible with macOS at the moment. The plugin is hosted on KVR Audio.

oncan i download this from kvr without logging in? i remember not having to log in to kvr to grab stuff.

onAFAIK, no. Not the way they handled this one. Often, software are a link to a website, and even sometimes from the KVR server itself (like for the Dev Challenge entries).
But this was uploaded like a preset bank, and those require you to log in.
