Get 71% OFF Pulsar Echorec @ VSTBuzz

VSTBuzz launched a 71% OFF deal on the Echorec delay plugin from Pulsar Audio.

Pulsar Echorec usually costs €99, but right now, till the 10th of March, you can buy it for just €29.

The plugin is, of course, an emulation of the 1960s Binson Echorec. Binson’s Echorec is a legendary bit of gear that came from Dr. Bonfiglio Bini (Binson owner) and Scarano Gaetano (engineer).

Although manufactured in the 1960s, the Echorec gained real popularity in the 1970s. And although made famous by many artists/bands, one took it further than any other, and that’s Pink Floyd.

If one effect defined the Pink Floyd sound, it’s the Binson Echorec.

Binson did go through a few revisions of the Echorec, and this plugin is modeled on the Binson Echorec 2.

If anyone is interested in buying a hardware unit in excellent condition, you shouldn’t expect much change from £5,000-6,000.

The legendary status of the hardware would mean very little if Pulsar Audio wasn’t able to recreate the magic. But, by most accounts, they have done an excellent job capturing the subtle analog quality in digital form.

There are three delay modes, Echo, Rip, and Swell. In Echo mode, the delay is more subtle with no feedback. Rip Mode is probably closer to the iconic sound Echorec is best-known for, with the active head feeding back into the signal. Swell Mode utilizes all four heads and is fantastic for creating rhythmic delays with regenerative echos.

The GUI stays pretty true to the original hardware, and as far as image goes, it looks great. The benefit of analog sound in digital form, other than the price, is the more straightforward or enhanced functionality.

Opinions on analog emulations often differ because the hardware units used in comparison don’t always sound the same. One of the things I like about this emulation is that Pulsar Audio used three different units to create it.

The three units of varied physical condition each provide a slightly different character. The plugin has three condition settings, Used, Good, and Mint, to represent each unit.

Despite lots of freebies around, I think Echorec is worth considering while on sale. However, if you want to check out some freebies, have a look at our FREE delay VST plugins article.

Echorec is available in AU, VST 2.4, VST 3, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.
