If you’re looking for a new DAW, this is certainly an offer worth considering. The download version of Studio One Artist edition by Presonus will be available for $20 between January 13th and January 16th, in celebration of the 2011 NAMM show.
Once acquired, the Artist edition of Studio One could be upgraded to Pro at any time, for a price of $199. So basically, if you invest $20 now, you’ll be able to get Studio One Pro later for a total price of $220, which is roughly 60% of the regular price.
The only big BUT you should be aware of is the fact that the Artist edition doesn’t support 3rd party VST plugins. If you enjoy working with your own set of software synths and effects, this fact makes the offer far less attractive. However, Studio One comes bundled with a great suite of native plugins, including twenty effects, two samplers, and a simple mono synthesizer. These tools packed into a capable DAW such as Studio One are certainly worth the $20 investment, and make this offer a rather tempting one for me… even though I won’t be able to use some of my favorite freebie VSTs inside it.
