Sonocipher – Free Text To Audio Sequence Converter (NI Kontakt)

By Tomislav ZlaticJune 6, 20154 Comments3 Mins Read
Sonocipher Free Text To Audio Sequence Converter for NI Kontakt.

Fairly Confusing Waveforms releases Sonocipher, a totally awesome free text to audio sequence converter/generator for Native Instruments Kontakt.

This instrument is inspired by one of the most recent inside jokes originating from KVR Audio. Now, KVR Forum is a funny place most of the time, a weird place some of the time and on occasion it is both funny and weird at the same time. This was the case last week when the Instruments section witnessed an influx of new threads discussing the sound quality of different serial numbers. Which serial number sounds better, which serial number should be upgraded in order to sound better, … you know,  standard small talk stuff for everyday people (here’s one of the threads in question).

Anyways, don’t sweat it if you don’t understand the previous paragraph, it’s for the better. The genius Kontakt instrument maker SzcZ (aka Fairly Confusing Waveforms) was able to see through all of this irony on display at KVR Audio and actually use it as inspiration for yet another brilliant Kontakt creation from the Fairly Confusing Waveforms kitchen. Sonocipher uses text input to generate grainy cinematic audio sequences which sound totally awesome. In other words, now it is finally possible to compare all of your serial numbers and figure out which one is the best. Or, test your sentences before speaking them out loud, so that you only say the stuff which sounds the best!

In all seriousness, this is a really cool Kontakt instrument and a great example of how creative one can actually get with the KSP (the Kontakt Script Processor used to program the behavior of Kontakt instruments). This particular instrument actually has a full numeric keyboard which is used to input text into the sound engine. I mean I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen anything even remotely like this in a Kontakt instrument before! It’s not just a gimmick either, since this little instrument can generate some absolutely brilliant rhythmic and glitchy sequences. Use the virtual keyboard to input test strings and then modify the sequence using the modulation wheel, the pitch wheel and the special characters on the keyboard.

If you’re liking this one, you should definitely check out other Fairly Confusing Waveforms creations such as Bleepman and the totally awesome Scape-O-Matic. SzcZ has also created a custom Kontakt interface for our free Game Boy drum kit pack which is linked above.
