IK Multimedia is offering the Syntronik OXa (€49.99 value) virtual synthesizer as a completely free download for their newsletter subscribers until June 17th, 2020. Both existing and new subscribers are eligible for the freebie offer.
OXa is a sample-based virtual instrument featuring the sounds of two analog four-voice classics: the Oberheim OB-X and OB-Xa synthesizers. These two legendary instruments were manufactured in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The most notable use of the OB-Xa synthesizer was in the famous keyboard riff on Van Halen’s “Jump,” but it’s capable of generating a broad range of synth sounds. The OB-Xa is also excellent for analog bass sounds, pads, and all sorts of analog keys.

Syntronik uses audio samples as the sound source but provides a deep synthesis engine to match the sonic manipulation characteristics of the emulated hardware instruments. It features circuit-modeled filters and uses IK Multimedia’s DRIFT technology for emulating subtle oscillator variations of analog hardware.
With the OXa plugin, the user gets full access to the oscillator tuning, filter, performance controls, and the modulation section with dual AHDSR envelopes and multi-shape LFOs. The user can further enhance the sound with 38 effect modules that were derived from IK Multimedia’s popular AmpliTube and T-RackS products.
OXa is typically priced at €49.99, but you can get it for free until June 17th by subscribing to IK Multimedia’s mailing list. Here’s the announcement from IK Multimedia:
- Sign up for the IK Multimedia newsletter.
- Log in and go to your IK User Area.
- Redeem the Syntronik Instruments OXa.
- Once redeemed, go to My Products and under the Sounds Download section to download Syntronik Instruments OXa.
- Download your Syntronik Free software using the download button on the right side of the screen.
- Install and authorize your products by inserting the serials in the Authorization Manager (Serials are found in My Products).
- The Syntronik OXa is now unlocked and ready to be played inside of Syntronik.
So, to summarize, you should sign up for the newsletter and then download the Syntronik Free plugin and the Syntronik OXa expansion, as well as the Authorization Manager software. Both the plugin and the Syntronik OXa expansion pack can be activated by inserting the product serials in the Authorization Manager.
Syntronik and Syntronik OXa are compatible with VST, VST 3, and AAX plugin hosts on PC and Mac. Only 64-bit plugin hosts are supported. Don’t forget to explore the Syntronik Free sound library, which includes 50 additional instruments presets.

onI haven’t used it yet, but I was impressed with the sounds included in Syntronik Free. This should be good, too. I’ll test it over the weekend.

onPerhaps it is better, but…. you will lost full control. That’s why I don’t take anything from syntronic anymore.

onI got the whole Syntronik collection for free. Quick impressions : it takes loads of space but it sounds different than “emulated” digital synths to my ears, because it’s essentially a rompler/sampler. If you want full control on the sound for synthesis or sounds design purposes it is definitely not the way to go. But if you want some instant-classic sounds that sound great from the get go and than can be a bit adjusted to fit in your music, it is hard to beat I find. The presets sound warm and rich in my opinion, maybe exactly because it is not synthesized but actually sampled from those classical synths…
Overall an amazing collection imo if you’re looking for some retro sounds, and as usual with IK stuff : underrated

onActually pretty impressed with this one. Something to keep in mind is that you might want to keep backups of your sounds. The reason I bring this up is because you can’t re-download them after 180 days without buying sound reactivation credits. If you do lose access to them though and you have to buy the reactivation credits it’s only $10.00 and it reactivates all the sounds in your account. So it’s not all bad. :D

onYeah, the 180-day period to download the sounds is a bit of a bummer. It’s best to keep a backup of the downloaded sounds in a safe place.
