Oblik Lines Releases FREE Misty Valley For NI Reaktor

Oblik Lines has released Misty Valley, a freely downloadable synthesizer ensemble for Native Instruments Reaktor (full version required).

Misty Valley is an “unstable” synthesizer inspired by Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Rival Consoles, and similar artists. The instrument uses pitch modulation, layered noise, and a few other sound design techniques to generate sounds that can be described as being more organic and “human” than what you’d typically expect to hear from a synthesizer.

The instrument comes with 75 unique presets. The presets are sorted into four distinct sound categories:

• Blurred noises: an overload of noisy sounds.
• Unstable textures: dreamy/soaring sounds with a touch of noise.
• Almost clean: classical analog sounds with some noise.
• Noise beds: atmospheric noise pads.

The included presets are very well-made, and there are plenty of inspiring sounds you can discover simply by browsing through Misty Valley’s default sounds. That said, the instrument features a user-friendly interface that simply begs to be tweaked and utilized to create new sounds. Misty Valley is based on a dual oscillator synth engine with unison, adjustable oscillator drift, and a tape noise generator. The sound generated by the oscillators can be further shaped using wow and flutter modulation, a low-pass filter, distortion, and an ADSR envelope.

The instrument is released under the Creative Commons Attribution license. The software and the included sounds can be used in commercial and non-commercial work as long as the author is credited. The included patches and the source samples may not be redistributed.
