Burier Is A FREE Saturation Effect By KIT Technology

KIT Technology offers Burier, a freeware saturation and filter effect in VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for PC and Mac.

Burier is a saturation/filter combo plugin for digital audio workstations on Windows and macOS. KIT Technology is a plugin developer out of Nashville, Tennessee, and Burier is its very first release.

When people discuss saturation plugins, it’s all about adding that analog warmth to the mix. The term analog warmth gets thrown around a lot by developers as a selling-point for their plugins, and it can be a little vague. It leads to many beginners misusing saturation, thinking it’s a magic wand that will make any track sound like vintage gold.

The warmth that we look for is highly subjective; to some extent, it’s different for all of us, and that’s not a bad thing. For the record, I’m probably someone who throws out the term analog warmth too often, too, but I know what it means to me.

Burier has a nice, clean GUI with a large central “BURY” knob controlling the amount of saturation applied. Below that is a mix dial to blend the wet/dry signal, an output dial, and a link switch that links the output gain to the BURY level. When linked, the output dial will adjust automatically to compensate for any level adjustments you make. The filter section features IIR (Infinite Impulse Responses) low cut and high cut filters.

I tried Burier on guitar, piano, drums, and vocals to get a feel for what it has to offer. What I hoped to hear was a versatile plugin that could be very subtle or in your face without sounding ridiculous. In that sense, I have to say I was pleased with the results, but I especially liked it on guitar.

I tend to stay on the very subtle side of saturation, but you can easily crank Burier to the max if you adjust your gain staging accordingly. For any beginners, if the signal you feed Burier is too hot, cranking the saturation will destroy your track; if it’s too low, the saturation won’t even kick in.

Burier is available in the VST3, AU, AAX formats and as a standalone application. I’m happy to say the download process was quick and painless, done in a few minutes.

I’m running macOS Catalina and encountered no issues; hopefully, it’s the same across the board. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next from KIT Technology, but for now, Burier is a good start.
