KVR Develeper Challenge 2018 Entries Available For Download

KVR Audio has unveiled the entries in the KVR Developer Challenge 2018, now featuring 24 freeware VST and AU plugins for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.

For those unfamiliar with the KVR Developer Challenge, it is an online contest for audio plugin developers organized by KVR Audio. The challenge is, of course, a great way for developers to promote their work, but also a fantastic source of freeware plugins for us users. We’ve seen some amazing software in the previous editions of KVRDC, such as the Youlean Loudness Meter, the Lagrange delay effect, as well as our own Commodore 64 Synthesizer Sessions DELUXE.

This year’s contest is the seventh edition of the challenge (the first one was held all the way back in 2006). The number of entries is somewhat smaller this time around (24 plugins compared to KVR DC16’s 32 plugins), but the quality doesn’t seem to be lacking. We have entries from talented developers like Tesselode (who released the Mika Micro synthesizer earlier this year) and Dead Duck Software (known for the excellent Dead Duck Software plugin suite), along with seasoned developers like Ignite Amps (who made the fantastic PTEq-X freeware equalizer) and Full Bucket Music (whose ModulAir modular synthesizer was recently featured on BPB), just to name a few. There are also a couple of soundware entries, including an acoustic drumkit made by our writer Drogomir Smolken (aka Karoryfer).

The prize fund is impressive this year, with a total of 2,900 to be shared among the top-ranked developers. The winner will also get the chance to showcase their work at next year’s Winter NAMM Show. The voting is open until September 30th and the winners will be announced in October. All registered KVR Audio members can join the vote. You don’t have to be a KVR Audio member to download the entries.

Over the next few days, BPB will feature some of the more interesting KVR Developer Challenge 2018 entries in our Software News section. Stay tuned for that. While you’re here, please let us know what your favorite entries are this year in the comments section below. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this, as it will help us decide on which plugins to review on BPB.

You got too excited and typo’d the title. Thanks for posting it, I forgot all about it.

Damn, that’s like the fourth typoed title in the past month or so. Seems like the summer is getting the best of me.

My Favourite has got to be the simplicity and good quality of Dead Ducks Deducktion. A great little synth with 2 Oscillators, Supersaw detune, Chorus, Delay and Reverb FX, three envelopes, four LFOs and on top of that a great big Mod Matrix. lol

A great synthesizer. I’m a big fan of relatively simple subtractive synthesizers like Dead Duck Deducktion.

I agree there are some gems this year. Overall especially withe the last -KVR – DCs it is also pretty weak, some of the plugs just seem under development and make no sense. The very mentioned above are just fine, though.
