Mixup Is A FREE Music Collaboration Plugin By Puremix

Mixup by Puremix

Puremix offers Mixup, a freeware music collaboration plugin for all compatible digital audio workstations on macOS and Windows.

Mixup is a music collaboration system that makes it easy to share music and get feedback quickly. It works in two ways; you can use the Mixup website/platform or use the plugin (AU, VST, AAX formats) right in your DAW.

We are focusing on the plugin, and to get started, you just insert the Mixup plugin on your master bus. Once you’re up and running, you can drag and drop tracks into the plugin, ready for sharing.

When you share a track with someone, they will receive a notification and the ability to listen to it in any browser. More importantly, they can leave comments, suggestions, and any other feedback that you’ll receive instantly in the plugin.

Sharing content with clients or collaborators has never been a problem; the problem is making sure everyone is on the same page. Whether you email files back and forth, use Skype, or any other platform, important information can be misunderstood or lost completely amongst the random chat.

If someone comments on a specific point in your track, say 42 seconds in, the Mixup plugin ties the comment to that time. On playback, when you hit 42 seconds, Mixup will highlight the corresponding comment.

So, it leaves far less room for confusion, even if you have lots of comments/feedback.

It works just as well if you are going over an album rather than a single track. You can create a playlist, and every bit of feedback is right where it should be. As well as limiting potential misunderstandings, it makes you far less likely to forget something if you have an extensive to-do list.

Another cool thing that Mixup does is level matching to counter the “louder is better” effect.

Level matching comes into play if you create a playlist or multiple revisions of the same track. When you have multiple revisions, you can switch between them in the plugin, making it easy to A/B them and choose.

Having all of your revisions in one window with comments also saves you the embarrassment of trying to remember whether revision 1 or 20 had the perfect snare.

With the best intentions, most of us get sloppy now and then when it comes to naming files/saves or taking notes. Mixup helps us do what we already do, just tidier, and that’s a good thing.

There are 3 membership levels, FREE, Pro ($9.99/month), and Studio ($29.99/month). The FREE membership has a 30-day time limit per track, but other than that, it offers plenty to see if it’s for you or not.

Hmmm… interesting. It does seem kinda cool, I can certainly see the benefits. I guess I’ll have to try it out and see if it’s worth paying $10/$30 a month. Thanks for the heads up on this.
