Tonex is IK Multimedia’s flagship machine-modeling guitar tone creator. IK Multimedia’s Tone Eco-System recreates the sounds of the most sought-after amps, cabs, and pedals.
There are a few versions of TONEX, but if you don’t own one already, you can download TONEX CS for free.
The currently free TONEX Metal Gems Collection features four iconic high-gain amp tone models: the Peavey® 5150, Diezel Herbert, Soldano SLO-100, and Bogner Uberschall.

Any metalhead will already know everything about these legendary amps, but here’s a rundown of each tone model.
The Peavey® 5150 Block Letter model features various captures with stomps and different cabs. The original 5150 Block Letter model has the EVH logo, and the slightly later signature model replaces the logo with Eddie Van Halen’s signature.
My knowledge of amplifiers stopped at a certain point because the guitar wasn’t my first instrument.
As my guitar playing doesn’t merit a deeper knowledge base, so rather than ask the internet, I’ll throw this to the comments: Is there any discernable difference between the Block Letter and Signature models, or is it just gear purists looking for something that isn’t there?
The versatile Diezel Herbert model features 30-tone models using a range of cabs, microphones, and outboard gear for pristine cleans and ultra-tight distortion.
I remember the Soldano SLO-100 model for Amplitube 5 CS was available for free a few years back, but if you missed it, here’s your chance. This tone model delivers clean, drive, and high-gain tones using several stomps.
Many guitarists say it’s hard to sound bad through the much-loved Bogner Uberschall. I’m not sure I agree, but the much-loved amp, known for all-tube distortion, sounds fantastic in the right hands. This tone model features 25 lead and rhythm tones.
While I’m not a guitar amp buff, I am a fan of IK Multimedia when it comes to emulating iconic sounds, and I use their Hammond B3X often.
Another IK Multimedia amp is on offer this month: the Mesa Mark III for Amplitube 5 CS is free throughout July 2024.
All in all, it is a good time to be a guitarist.

onJust for the record: The only difference between the block letter 5150 and the signature models and the 6505 (which is how the model ended up being called after EVH no longer endorsed the amps) are the tubes that come with them. They’re exactly the same internally. Although, they’re essentially SLO-100 clones.

onI have a 1st gen 5150 head, all original. It sounds nothing like an SLO100. Just sayin’.

onCheaper components and assembly methods, probably a different layout were used to make the 5150 a more affordable alternative to the SLO, which can alter tone dramatically on any amp. Apparently the Rectifier is a close copy of the SLO’s schematic as well, with some extras. Totally different sound again.

onAgreed. Years ago I also had an early v1 of the Dual Rectifier Solo Head (a rackmount chassis version) and I now currently have a Single Recto head (series 2) and both had completely different vibes than the SLO100 or 5150, and the Recto 50 I have is even quite a bit different vibe-wise from the original Dual I had some 20 years ago (FWIW I definitely prefer the Solo 50). It’s pretty difficult to find an amp that isn’t derivative from another amp circuit in some form or another, but I guess I got hung up on the term “clone” as that seemed ill-informed. Not worth the argument TBH so no more stirring the pot from me as I don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun here.
