Fracture Sounds just released Blueprint: Drum Kit, a free versatile percussion instrument for the free Kontakt Player.
The Native Kontrol Standard instrument has a 900 MB download size, compressed from a 1.5 GB sample pool.
Drum Kit was recorded in the large studio hall of The Nave in Leeds, England.
The instrument features a set of standard drum kit elements and a collection of auxiliary percussion instruments.
The kit was played with heavy drumsticks, and Fracture Sounds notes that “this library is crafted for action scoring and rock drumming, yet versatile enough for various applications.”
The instrument includes three mic mixes which offer “exceptional control over the sound.”
This control is achieved through spot, overhead, and room microphones.
Fracture Sounds states that the instrument is further enhanced through the “advanced Punch and Hype controls found in our Epic Ensembles libraries – offering even greater flexibility in shaping your mix.”
The main control panel features Punch, Hype, Damping, and Stereo Width parameters.
The control scheme also includes a Mic Mix section, which has individual volume controls for the spot, overhead, and room microphones, as well as Mute, Solo, and Purge controls.
Users can also alter the Sample Start to reduce latency and the Velocity Response to adjust how much the instrument’s volume is controlled by the velocity input of your MIDI device.
Fracture Sounds showcases the sound of Drum Kit through five SoundCloud demos embedded on the product page.
These demos display the professional and varied sound of the kit and run the gamut from a punchy tone to more airy and diffuse sounds.
The developer has also produced a nearly 18-minute YouTube walkthrough for the instrument.
Andre Louis is credited as the creator of one of the audio demos, and he also appears in the walkthrough video, which demonstrates the controls and capabilities of the kit.

Blueprint is a series of free Kontakt Player instruments from Fracture Sounds, and the developer is currently offering nine instruments in the series.

onOne of the better-sounding free kits out there. Not a lot of tweakability on individual levels etc. but the sounds are pretty usable right out of the box- fairly hyped sounding right out of the box so a lot of processing likely wouldn’t be needed. I’d say it’s a kit worth having in your toolbox especially if you want something that sounds good fast without a lot of fiddling around
