Plugin Alliance offers 20 FREE plugins for producing, mixing, and mastering

Plugin Alliance offers 20 FREE plugins for producing, mixing, and mastering

We usually offer one freebie at a time. However, Plugin Alliance recently expanded its freeware bundle to include 20 plugins!

The free bundle has been around for a while, but Plugin Alliance has upgraded it from eight to 20 plugins.

The majority of the free plugins come from the developer Brainworx, with a little SPL and Elysia thrown in for good measure.

As mentioned, the bundle covers music production, mixing, and mastering; there’s a little bit of everything.

Guitarists might be particularly pleased with this freebie, though, thanks to an impressive collection of pedal and amp emulations.

The bx_rockrack V3 plugin provides eight lovely amp emulations from manufacturers like ENGL, Chandler, Friedman, and Mesa. It comes with 26 presets, from clean to jazz to metal.

The guitar goodies continue with bx_distorange and bx_greenscreamer.

bx_distorange is a faithful recreation of the Boss DS-1, one of the most popular distortion pedals ever. If you want to unleash your inner Steve Vai, bx_distorange could be the one for you.

bx_greenscreamer emulates the legendary Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer overdrive pedal. From Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield to Gary Clark Jr and John Mayer, the list of guitarists who regularly showcase the Tube Screamer sound is endless.

Brainworx is a developer that doesn’t take shortcuts when recreating iconic sounds; bx_greenscreamer is a component-level emulation.

Of course, it’s now all about guitarists; the bundle has some excellent mixing and mastering tools.

Two of the most popular are bx_mastercheck Classic and bx_subfilter.

bx_mastercheck Classic is the entry-level version of bx_masterdesk True Peak and the ideal starting point for mastering at home.

The simple three-step workflow is great for beginners and pros alike, and an extensive preset library makes life even easier.

August has been a good month for mixing and mastering plugins; if you haven’t downloaded UAD’s Century Channel Strip yet, please do so now while it’s free (the offer ends September 15th).

The Plugin Alliance freebies are available in AAX DSP, AAX Native, VST3, and AU formats.

All you need to do is sign up for a free Plugin Alliance account and download the installation manager to get your free bundle.

Have you downloaded the PA installation manager, and see what you have access to ?

I think this is also a way for PA to push their installation manager to users

You don’t need the installation manager to get any you are missing. I had the old free bundle and most of these from the old $20 coupons, but didn’t have megasingle or shredspread. So I downloaded those from their store pages and activated them from inside the plugin. That added them to my account.

Their installation manager isn’t bad as it’s optional. It’s a quick way to install what you want but I still keep the installers for offline installation.

What if every comment at BPB were to push personal reference code !?

Can’t you block such comments in the new regime

I think it’s ok if the reader clearly states that it’s a reference code and if the comment in question provides value to the readers. Not sure if everyone else agrees, though, I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts and will set things up accordingly!

Yeah, and they’re introducing a new installation system. They have a plugin manager now and no optional manual installation. I’ve just sent them an e-mail asking them to reconsider that decision. If they don’t, that will mean “bye-bye Melda” for me. I’ve been using their plugins for a very long time and really like them and I’ll keep using v16 until it works but not gonna buy any new plugins, that’s for sure. So, we’ll see…

      Melda are amazing.
      My go to every time.
Incredible deals, and depth of control way beyond anything else I’ve seen.
Even their massive free bundle is amazing, and the subscibe to own package is really fair and generous.
      No iLok, or other BS.

Not really, they have a plugin manager now and no offline installation/authorization option. Not acceptable to me. I’ll stick with v16.

          Hi Alex,
          Why is online activation unwanted?

I try to avoid it whenever it’s possible. Most of the commercial software that I use can be installed with no internet connection and is serial number or registry file authorized. That way I don’t depend on the internet at all and honestly I don’t like the level of control companies try to establish over customers and I really don’t like it when they treat honest customers like criminals and require iLok while others happily use cracked versions of their plugins.

Lately, I’ve got rid of the most of software managers, starting with those that require a constant internet connection for plugins to work (you don’t want to be connected to the internet while working, because some of them will randomly decide to call home and some point and if you have a bunch of those installed, that can seriously affect your DAW performance (it consumes RAM, CPU and disk). I’ve only kept the ones that can be uninstalled after the plugins have been installed. ATM, I’m working on a laptop that I also use for the internet, but planning on building a studio-only machine (again) and I’d prefer it to never once have to be internet connected. That keeps a machine much cleaner.

Well, there’s more but those would be the most important reasons :)

And I was wrong about Melda – offline activation/authorization is still available in the plugin manager. I should have informed myself a little better before claiming there was no such option anymore :///) In my defense, I was shocked to find out installers weren’t available to download anymore :)

If the “PA Free” tab does not appear in the manager, you can download the installer for each free plugin and install them manually.

Wow! I never knew the PA Manager was optional. I thought you had to download this. I downloaded PA Manager at least 3 years ago. I had discovered PA but for awhile didn’t buy anything because at the time they didn’t do the Waves deals situation. Once they linked up with Izotope and Brainworx, that’s when I downloaded the free software they offered. before that I thick they only offered 2 or 3 plugs for free. Then they started doin the sales and that’s when I started buyin multiple plugs I’ve been eyeing for months. I’m used to the PA Manager now. It is easier to download and install the plugs. If by some reason my laptop or desktop breaks down, I can just download the Manager and get everything at one time.

BTW: brainworx is the older company, which started plugin alliance some years later ;-)

years later, plugin alliance was bought by native instruments at the same time, that ni bought izotope

For anyone looking for the *new* PA FREE Bundles, you have to go to the All Products section and find “PA FREE”, that’s where all the new plugins resides. Keep in mind that you have to authorize each plugins separately, manually, which is kind of a hassle as the previous version of that bundle didn’t required it.

I really hoped that PA (or Native Instruments – as PA are owned by them) will at least fix it in the near future.

Oh and just a heads up: If you’re a member of Mastering.com (either paid or free via Fix-the-Mix), you’ll get a free bx_refinement plugin. Check your emails if you’re a member to get it. If you’re not… good luck next time.

You don’t have to authorize each one manually. Go to Account>Manage Devices, go to the Activate Existing Device and all of the plugins that you have available to you will be licensed to that machine.
Also, quick tip, you can download an offline license even if your machine isn’t normally an offline machine, and all your plugins will be ready to go when you pop them up for the first time, whether you’re online or not.

The new stuff they added is really good, definitely improves their free offering. I had an issue where some of the plugins weren’t showing up as free, but restarting the plugin manager a few times fixed it (you can also download the installers directly from the website)

Sampleson has just updated CollaB3 to v2 with a completely overhauled sound engine, along with custom-modeled rotary speaker and mic emulations. It’s still free but there is the pro version now. CollaB3 is really great and after it had been released it quickly became my most used organ plug. So:
