We recently covered KiTiK’s freeware plugin bundle in our news section. In the article, we briefly examined all the included plugins, but Disburser deserves a more in-depth look.
KiTiK refers to Disburser as the “mystical all-pass filter,” and if you’re familiar with Kilohearts Disperser ($59), that’s a pretty fair description.
It is a fair description because a lot of people who say they love Disperser can’t accurately convey why they love it. They know it does something, that it sounds good, and everything else doesn’t really matter.
Kilohearts will tell you that Disperser offers a different take on transient shaping or an extreme effect that creates frequency sweeps by rotating the phases of your signal.
Rotating the phases of the various frequencies in your sound creates different delays per frequency. It’s those delays that create the varied dispersing of sound through time.
Since KiTiK reverse-engineered Dispersed to create Disbursed, we can look at the function descriptions Kilohearts offers to get a feel for the plugin:
- Frequency – Adjusts the cutoff of the filter.
- Amount – Increases the order of the all-pass filter.
- Pinch – Adjusts the Q setting of the filter, which has the effect of concentrating the delay around the cutoff.
The mystical element of Disperser has led YouTubers like Dash Glitch to take an in-depth look at what the plugin does.
In his “What Does Disperser Actually Do?” video, Dash uses Plugin Doctor to show how Disperser rotates the phases of your signal.
He demonstrates how you can add more phase rotations by adjusting the amount knob. He also demonstrates how the Pinch knob shifts all of the rotations inwards, concentrating the delay around the cutoff, as mentioned above.
KiTiK’s Disburser follows the same design with one control knob on either side of the frequency cutoff display. So, the application of controls is entirely transferable from the Disperser to the Disburser.
However, I recommend checking out Dash’s video because it’s always more interesting to see the visual implications of each function. Also, he has a lot of very interesting things to say about multi-band processing in general.

Here’s a heads up for anyone who missed the chance to get iZotope’s Neutron 4 for free; it’s free once more, for a limited time!
And finally, thank you all for your thoughts on the new-look BPB!

onWell, I don’t really know what to think of this. I downloaded the free bundle and the distortion plugs, both multi and single-band, were great but I discovered a bug. I contacted the dev and he said he had been aware of it but thought it had been solved. He asked for some additional info that I sent, but after that never heard from him again. Maybe I’ll check if he’s done something about it and if he has maybe check the new plug.

onAs per an email update:
“[…] I will also be sending out an update for disburser for the those of you that may be having issues getting it to load in Logic. And finally, an update to Mangl3r and DistorK is coming that should remove some bugs and allow the workflow to be even quicker than before! […]”
alex
onThat’s a great news. Those two are really good.

onEarlier today:
“Disburser Update 1.1
Happy to announce a new update to Disburser that should fix the issue that some you were having loading it into Logic. While I was there, I noticed that my dials didn’t have any labels! Now you can see the values and the title of the knob to help make things a bit more clear.”
Presumably, the other two will now get some attention. :)

onEarlier today:
* Mangl3r Update v1.1
– Fixed a bug where if too many of the gains on the individual distortions were turned up, it would only go into the left channel
– Gains on individual distortions now only range from +/- 6db, instead of +/- 24db.
– Fixed a bug on the waveshaper module where the high band and the single band values were not separate from each other. Now you should be able to waveshape the single band properly!
* DistorK v2.1
– Fixed a bug where if too many of the gains on the individual distortions were turned up, it would only go into the left channel
– Gains on individual distortions now only range from +/- 6db, instead of +/- 24db.

onsadly you can’t use it within snapheap though
Lucas
onWell, yeah. It’s not Kilohearts. XD

onOne of those unnecessary plugs that no one can really need/use

onHi BPB. Love your site.
Constructive feedback on the the new layout. Its a downgrade. So many more clicks to get around. I loved the summarized timeline.. I loved the mixup of soundware and software. (preparing for incoming mob backlash).

onSeems to be the exact same thing indeed. That guy makes some pretty interesting plugins, once you know what they’re good for.
