NuSpace Audio Releases Free Riviera Reverb VST Plugin

NuSpace Audio has released Riviera, a freeware hybrid reverb effect in VST2 and VST3 plugin formats for Windows-based digital audio workstations.

Riviera is an interesting “hybrid” reverb plugin which utilizes both algorithmic reverberation and convolution to create its reflections. Although it is for Windows only, the plugin is 100% freeware, and I imagine you probably don’t have anything quite like it already.

The developer’s description of the plugin reads like a NASA manual. However, what is clear is that quite a bit of work was put into this reverb to make it very customizable and powerful, yet with a low CPU load and low latency.

Riviera promises to generate some unique spaces through the combination of impulse responses and algorithmic reverb. The main parameters of the plugin are called “Vooms”. The developer defines these as volume + room. Riviera comes with 5 vooms in total and these relate to different reverb styles such as spring reverb, plate, room, tesseract, and up. Each voom has separate controls for reflections, size, and offset. The combination of these vooms would likely create unique reverb sounds from the source material. There is also a global delay time control, as well as pan, width, and wet/dry mix adjustments.

The Riviera also features a frequency decay control that allows the user to alter decay times of different frequencies. This would definitely be useful for preventing low-frequency build-up in your reverb tail and is different than simply EQ’ing the reverb after the fact. It could also be utilized for creating warped reverb effects for dramatic manipulations of the reverb tail.
