Cinesamples has released five new (or reimagined) freebies for the free Kontakt Player.
The cinematic stuff usually excites me most when it comes to free instruments and libraries, and this little collection of free Kontakt libraries looks very interesting.
The collection includes Tongue Drum, Twisted Psaltry, Accent Piano, Toy Xylo, and Kalimba (the last two are part of the Create Series).
Tongue Drum delivers the sound of an iron tongue drum tuned to a pentatonic scale and was released previously under the name Modal Drum. This new updated release has some significant improvements, including onboard FX and the option to re-map the instrument chromatically.
It’s a sound that reminds me of any 80s or early 90s movie scene where someone is arriving somewhere (vague, I know); you’ll hear that rhythmic melody as a plane is touching down or during random city shots that let you know we are here now.
Twisted Psaltry is the sound of fear! That metallic, uncomfortable noise that’s heard in almost every horror movie. These metallic sounds are sometimes the most impactful in a good horror score and often come from custom-built contraptions of all shapes and sizes.
Accent Pianos comes from two orchestral pianos from the MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Studios. It’s not a piano sound that wants to sit in the background; it’s a sound that demands attention and is best used percussively/rhythmically. Accent Pianos is perfect for anything from action scores to suspense and thrillers.
The last two freebies, ToyXylo and Kalimba, are from the Create Series, and both have playful characters. Obviously, both sounds are ideal for really sweet melodic music, but they are more versatile than they seem. Another common horror technique (maybe gimmick is a better word, but it still works) is to use childlike sounds, like a toy music box, etc. The kind of sounds that should tell you everything’s OK, but in a darker context, they are pure terror.
Well done, Cinesamples; a great bunch of freebies covering a wide range of cinematic scenarios and for the FREE Kontakt Player.
Overall, 2022 has been an excellent year for cinematic freebies, with some highlights being Cinematic SFX by Flame Sound and the recent Cassette Synth from LABS.
You never know when you might get a phone call to score the fifteenth installment of the Michael Myers franchise, Halloween Ended, Or Did It? so it’s best you have your cinematic sounds ready to go!

onYou can have them both installed at the same time. I also have only the full version of Kontakt 6 . Kontakt Player 7 should be available as download in Native Access. I’m sorry for my bad English.

onHas anyone gotten this to work? I got the libraries “bought” and got the serial numbers added to Native Access, but there’s nothing to download from anywhere. Cinesamples says Native Access will download them directly and Native Access just says “Add Library”, like I should have the files already installed. Any help?

onTurns out my Native Access is so out of date, that it doesn’t even tell me it’s out of date anymore lol :D
I’m amazed that all of my other libraries have worked for so long. Everything works now :)

Tested all of these libraries and made a short video demoing them. Out of all of them the Tongue Drum and Kalimba were the best sounding and most versatile for different types of productions. Toy Xylo is decent but has a very limited range. Twisted Psaltry and Accent Piano have limited usability outside of very specific circumstances. Overall really cool of Cinesamples to give them away for free.

onAnyone unable to get these due to the site telling me to agree to terms even tho i have? i’ve tried unticking it and re ticking, refreshing, starting over again and still tells me to accept the terms when i try to confirm purchase. that was on brave browser so i’ve just tried with safari and for some reason i cant even go back a page on safari to add all items to cart because the site automatically takes you to cart when you add something.
