Variety Of Sound 64-bit Public Beta Is Coming In July! 😍

By Tomislav ZlaticJune 29, 202165 Comments3 Mins Read
Variety Of Sound 64-bit COMING SOON

Variety Of Sound announced that their products will soon be available in 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows as part of a public beta test.

There’s zero doubt that Variety Of Sound is among the best freeware plugin developers on the market. The plugins took inspiration from analog hardware, but Herbert Goldberg (the developer behind Variety Of Sound) always offered a unique take on analog emulation.

Chances are, though, that you may have never heard of Variety Of Sound plugins. How come?

Variety Of Sound was all the rage on the free VST plugin scene in the early 2010s, but their products were never updated to be compatible with 64-bit digital audio workstations.

As the digital audio world slowly but surely transitioned to 64-bit operating systems, Variety Of Sound got less and less attention. Even so, they remain among the favorite tools for many producers, myself included. FerricTDS is still my favorite tape emulation plugin ever and I’ve tried them all.

The fact that FerricTDS might soon be available as a 64-bit VST plugin for Windows already makes me feel ecstatic about the public beta that is announced for July 2021. Let alone that all other Variety Of Sound plugins will get the same 64-bit treatment.

Another fact worth pointing out is that Variety Of Sound confirmed that their products will remain freeware. Although I honestly wish that a pay what you want option will be available so that we can support and appreciate Variety Of Sound’s amazing work.

As stated in the official announcement on Variety Of Sound’s website, the public beta should begin in July 2021. The developer is looking for free cloud space storage to “offer hassle-free downloads without any traffic/bandwidth limits (or advertising).”

As someone who maintains the BPB Downloads page and 99Sounds, I know how difficult it can be to find decent file storage for free. I would suggest trying Gumroad, Patreon, or a little-known host called Payhip.

And of course, I would gladly offer to host any Variety Of Sound plugins on Bedroom Producers Blog, for free.

I am so looking forward to the Variety Of Sound 64-bit beta! It is like waiting for the reboot of your favorite movie trilogy to come to the cinema, except you know it’s going to be good! 😍

Same here, I don’t use any 32-bit wrappers so I couldn’t integrate VOS into my workflow over the past few years.

I think, it would be good to link VoS wordpress page directly so that people can suggest host service or show love for the plugins.

Good that BPB is already one of the hosting suggestion in comments.

BPB + VoS could be a good couple :-)

I hope the code algorithms are not changed while porting them to 64-bits!

Of course over the years, you could find alternatives and replacements for most. But, we, completely normal hoomans, grow accustomed to a sound, a visual, a user experience for good or bad. That said, I’m still a complete sucker for epicVerb and NastyDLA. I didn’t use the compressors enough back then to miss them (enter the comments about them being THE ONLY GOOD ONES EVAR ^_^). But NastyVCS is/was/will_be? one killer all-in-one channel strip kinda thing that was both extremely easy to approach visually and had tons of different available tones at your fingertips. Dead Duck, AO, SNFK, quite a few moar… and now VoS coming back. Who had that on their bingo card?

Any VoS plugin does what it is meant to do perfectly. Plus He’s one of the VERY FEW Plugin developers that take the time /resources to create manuals for their products. I can’t say how many times I have been frustrated by complex, potentially go-to plugins without instructional manuals. Also VoS plugins are probably the most stable plugins on the market, NEVER have I ever experienced a DAW crash with ’em on FL Studio.

Superb news. Nasty DLA is still the best free tape delay emulation. with full through zero phasing and self feedback.
No one has matched it in ten years.
In general his drive algorithms are still some of the best too.

Best news ever! Since I bought a new laptop and went 64 bit I’ve used Jbridger for some VoS plugins that I’ve been using since day 1, but when bridged they are too CPU hungry for me. I try to squeeze in BootEQ at times, Ferric for the master and I haven’t really found anything quite like the NastyDLA for vocals yet so this is very welcome!

Yes, so far. Because a 64bit Windows allows you to run 32bit programs, itself already bridging it somehow. But beware the new Windows 11. Which at some point, you might want/need to use. Just sayin’.

        on June 30, 2021 7:26 pm

Just to make myself clear, or maybe worse. Since Windows has gone 64bit, all 32bit programs are using a system called WoW64 (Windows on Windows 64bit) that is already ‘bridging’ the programs themselves in a transparent manner to the OS. jBridge’s role, and some DAWs using similar technology, are only doing the bridging from the 32bit plugin to the 64bit host program, which is another problem. Yay! \o/
TL;DR: going full 64bit is always better.

You get 20gb storage free (should be enough?) but I don’t know how it works if a lot of people are downloading the same file/s simultaneously, but it has always worked great for me.
