Waves MaxxVolume Is FREE For A Limited Time (Ends Soon!)

Mastering.com and Waves Audio are offering the MaxxVolume plugin as a free download for a limited time. The offer will soon end; however, we don’t know the exact end date.

We already covered a similar MaxxVolume deal in September last year.

If you’re unfamiliar with the plugin, here’s a quick look at the latest freebie from Waves.

Waves MaxxVolume is an easy-to-use dynamics tool for enhancing the loudness and punchiness of a mix. It’s designed to do most of the heavy lifting on its own, making it suitable for beginners who want to improve their mixes at home.

The plugin combines elements from various existing Waves compressors and limiters such as Renaissance Vox, L2 Ultramaximizer, C1 Parametric Compander, and Renaissance Compressor. Most of the work is done under the hood, whereas the user only needs to adjust the desired Threshold and Gain settings.

This minimal control scheme vastly simplifies the compression workflow, which is fantastic if you’re mixing your track in a hurry or if you still haven’t learned how to use a compressor.

MaxxVolume offers soft-knee compression for quieter signals to boost overall energy, a gate feature for less intrusive gain reduction, and a high-level compression stage for louder signals. It also includes a Leveler, which acts as an automatic gain control for maintaining a steady level without limiting, thus requiring careful output level monitoring to avoid clipping.

I used MaxxVolume on a bass-heavy hip-hop beat I’ve been working on recently, and it was very effective in boosting the overall loudness without any negative side effects. It reminded me of the excellent Boost plugin by UrsaDSP, which is my current go-to tool for limiting complex signals.

The interface is so simple that it’s easy to adjust the loudness by ear, even if you don’t have the best monitoring equipment. So, if you’re looking for an easy-to-use compressor/limiter that sounds great, act fast while Maxx Volume is still free.
