Sonniss released the GDC 2023 – Game Audio Bundle, a free collection of royalty-free sound effects.
Sound effects are the lifeblood of an electronic producer, and you can snag a massive 44+ gigabytes of sound effect samples thanks to Sonniss for free. These aren’t your typical drum or melodic samples but rather field recordings, designed sound effects, and other little bits and bobs.
GDC, or the Game Developer’s Conference, is a yearly event for developers to convene, talk shop, attend events, and otherwise schmooze with other industry people.
This sound pack is too exhaustive and huge to cover in-depth, but there is a fair bit here for production, scoring, and sound design purposes. What is known is that there are over 850 sound effects, prime for the taking.
Be prepared for a massive download, as Sonniss had to split the folder into fourteen individual zip files.
There is also an official (legal) torrent available, which might be more stable for some folks.
Those who missed out on previous editions are also in luck because the 2021 and 2022 editions of this sound pack are included in the download.
Attribution is likewise generation, requiring no credit given. With this in mind, Sonniss does ask that you purchase a collection if you’re seeking more samples or design choices for your game audio needs.
Collections from Sonniss are also on sale for a limited time, with prices ranging between 25% to 75% off. These cover mostly sound effects but could prove to be a vital source of inspiration for your next production.
For those working in scoring or sound design for film or games, this is quite a massive pack and likely has at least some material you can use.
GDC 2023 is available for any computer that can handle WAV samples. The sample pack itself is platform-agnostic and just requires a compatible sampler.
Sonniss is also running a limited giveaway open to the public to get another $5,000 worth of sound effects from their massive catalog. Prizes range from $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place, and $1,000 for first place.
GDC 2023 is free forever and will likely be replaced by GDC 2024 next year, which might include the collections from 2021, 2022, and 2023.
