Tracktion Corporation has announced the release of Waveform Free, a forthcoming freeware digital audio workstation that is set to replace T7 DAW.
The news was announced at NAMM 2020, along with the information about Tracktion Corporation’s new flagship DAW software called Waveform 11. The free version of the software will include the majority of the features found in Waveform 11, minus some advanced functionality such as beat detection. The full feature list is yet to be announced. The release is expected sometime in April this year.

It allows the users to run their VST plugins in a sandbox environment and help prevent major crashes in case if any of the plugins happen to misbehave. If you like testing new plugins and can’t help but use one in an important project, the sandbox in Waveform 11 and Waveform Free will make such experiments less risky.
Waveform 11 also brings an improved user interface and plenty of other new features. Watch the video embedded at the top of this article for more information. We will have an in-depth review of both Waveform 11 and Waveform Free ready in time for their release.
We’re looking forward to testing Waveform Free. At the moment, our two favorite freeware digital audio workstations are T7 DAW and Cakewalk by Bandlab. Which one do you prefer?

onNever tried it (probably will when free version is released), but just wanted to say that I’ve never had a VST crash with Reaper which can use both 32- and 64-bit at the same time.

onIt seems like they introduce a paid version almost yearly. It ditched Tracktion as an additional DAW because few updates vs. paid upgrades. An upgrade license is the same as Reaper.

onWell, I`m curious. Though, Waveform basically is T7 with a mixer added and some ultra-pro bells and whistles. Been a huge fan of Tracktion since the 5th version and a free giveaway of T7 was a dream come true to me. Guys have always been generous to broke and poor)

onwell as a computer music subscriber i actually have this daw, i think its just the same as provided by computer music. its actually waveform 9 without third party things n without collective .

onI hope Waveform Free supports 32-bit machines. Waveform 10 beta versions are still available for free on Tracktion’s website, which I can’t use on my 32-bit PC. Am still running T7.

onAs an artist I need to start on a blank page and have easy access to all the folders I’ve created.
T7 is a one page DAW, but I like their folder trees but instruments with multi outputs are complicated to configurate.
Bandlab has a better view of my workflow and comes with several good quality VSTi and FX. But it lacks sub folders and can only open one VST/VSTi window at a time.
However, the floating windows and color folder trees of Reaper have convinced me to buy their licence.
