Universal Audio’s 1176 Classic Limiter Collection is 87% OFF

By Stephen CharltonAugust 16, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read
Universal Audio’s 1176 Classic Limiter Collection is 87% Off for Limited Time Only

Currently, Plugin Boutique is offering Universal Audio’s 1176 Classic Limiter Collection for $39, a whopping 87% off the list price of $299.

This means that for a limited time, you can save $260 by picking up the 1176 Classic Limiter Collection.

The 87% off deal is only available at Plugin Boutique’s website and is not available at the official Universal Audio website.

Plugin Boutique is also running a monthly deal throughout August, allowing you to get either the VCA Compressor ($149 value) or K7D Tape Delay ($40 value) for free when you make a purchase on the website.

Universal Audio describes the 1176 Classic Limiter Collection as the definitive collection of the world’s most famous compressors.

The collection features three distinct revisions of the Universal Audio 1176 Peak Limiter hardware unit.

Universal Audio founder Bill Putnam designed 1176 Peak Limiter, the first of which was released in 1967.

The unit was the first solid-state comp and the first comp to offer a fast 20-microsecond FET gain reduction.

Universal Audio describes it as “an easy‑to‑use desert island compressor that has lent its character and punch to some of the greatest recordings in history.”

The 1176 Classic Limiter Collection features emulations of the Rev A Bluestripe, Rev E Blackface, and 1176AE units.

The Rev A Bluestripe represents the original Putnam FET limiter design, complete with its higher distortion and unique FET gain amplifier characteristics.

The Rev E Blackface covers the early ’70s Brad Plunkett Low Noise era, with variations including a more linear compression response, transistor gain amplification, and a change to the program dependence.

The 1176AE provides UA’s rare 1176 40th Anniversary Edition, complete with exclusive mods, including its lower 2:1 compression ratio.

Universal Audio has included new features to update the limiters for modern workflows, such as “quick parallel processing on bass and kick drums with Dry/Wet mix controls, or use the custom Sidechain Filter to tame low‑frequency pumping.”

The developer has also enhanced the graphics and added improved VU metering.

The 1176 Classic Limiter Collection requires an active internet connection and a free iLok account to authorize the plugin via iLok Cloud. Alternatively, you can activate it offline with a physical iLok USB (second generation or higher).

The collection now runs on any macOS and PC setup without the need for Universal Audio hardware.
