Helmut Keller Audio recently released its free TWD DLX Fender Tweed Deluxe amp sim plugin.
The German indie developer has produced the plugin as a Mac, Windows, and Linux release.
Helmut Keller Audio used the 5E3 circuit from a Fender Tweed Deluxe amplifier as the basis for the amp model.
The developer explained that the models for the plugin’s tube stages “are based on real tube circuits but are simplified as much as possible without sacrificing aspects relevant to sound and playing experience.”
Helmut Keller Audio also added circuit variants and a universal tone stack to extend the tonal range of the original circuit.
The developer states that “the sound quality and the playing experience is at least on par with existing solutions.”
The developer also notes: “In contrast to existing comparable solutions, this plugin runs in real-time even on fanless tablets, with very low latency, and with plenty of resources left for the obligatory IR-loader and an armada of additional guitar effects, if required.”
The control scheme of the original Fender Tweed Deluxe combo is extremely simple, with only a single Tone and two Volume controls present.
Helmut Keller Audio has expanded this control scheme for the TWD DLX, providing the following controls: Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble, Input Gain, Output Gain, and a Splitter Circuit.
The Zip file for the TWD DLX is available for free download via a single click process on the main page of the Helmut Keller Audio website.
The creator Helmut Keller wrote a detailed 52-page document on the details of the plugin, which outlines the plugin design right down to showing multiple EQ curves and the mathematics behind the code.
This document is included in the 23 MB Zip file for the plugin.
The download includes a VST3 zip for Linux, Windows, and macOS, as well as an AU zip for macOS.
The Linux VST3 is for 64-bit, while the Windows is for both 64 and 32-bit.
The plugin format for the TWD DLX is JSFX, and users can load the JSFX script as VST3 or AU versions in their DAWs.
The TWD DLX can also be “directly used in” Reaper.
The plugin was released earlier this week and is currently in its version 1.0 release.
Unfortunately, there are no audio demos available for the TWD DLX on the official Helmut Keller Audio product page, nor any user demos on YouTube so far.
Note that the plugin only simulates the amp circuit, so you’ll still need to run a cab sim as well to get the best results.

onThx, gonna check it out and maybe compare it to S-Gear Custom ’57. Or, just as always, mic my Blues Deluxe that I’ve been using since 1996 :) I mean, I love plugins, but not for tracking and playing … But, I do use them, when I have to.

onLike to hear feedback if you do decide to try it out. I was very tempted but I’m somewhat overburdened with various ways of getting a fender sound, and I just felt that this way was madness…
