Uhhyou Plugins Releases Free LatticeReverb Effect

Uhhyou Plugins Releases Free LatticeReverb Effect

Uhhyou Plugins has released Lattice Reverb, a freeware algorithmic reverb effect in the VST3 plugin format for compatible digital audio workstations on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Lattice Reverb is based on a reverb algorithm which uses the all-pass filter lattice topology and a delay grid with sixteen all-pass filters per channel. That’s the technical part of it, and I have to admit that I don’t understand any of it. The bottom line is, Lattice Reverb is a reverb plugin that uses some advanced mathematical algorithms to process sound.

After firing up Lattice Reverb for the first time, it took me a good ten minutes to get some meaningful sounds out of it. Due to its unconventional interface, it’s really not one of those plugins that you can pick up right away. It’s a lot of fun to use because you can get some totally crazy sounds out of it, but it takes time. I still can’t explain what’s going on there. One thing I do know, though – the Smooth knob will make the output sound less glitchy. Yay!

Anyway, the types of effects you can achieve with Lattice Reverb range from glitchy echoes and pitch-shifted delays to huge dark reverb and pure chaos. If you need a plugin to generate some crazy sounds in a hurry, Lattice Reverb deserves a spot in your sound design toolbox.

Despite its undeniable quirky charm, Lattice Reverb isn’t what you’d call a well-polished and user-friendly plugin. Everything about it, from the manual preset installation process to the rather technical-looking GUI, will require a bit of computer knowledge, patience, and some extra time getting used to. That said, I’m sure that the advanced users who actually enjoy testing freeware VST plugins that are “rough around the edges” will easily fall in love with Lattice Reverb after a bit of trial and error.

And if more fancy-looking interfaces are your thing, there are reports that the developer will improve the GUI design in a future release. Also, if you do like Lattice Reverb in its current state, there are plenty more freeware VST3 plugins to explore on the developer’s Github page.

Uhhyou Plugins is offering Lattice Reverb as a completely free download from its Github page. There’s no need to signup or register a user account. The plugin comes in a ZIP archive that contains the installer builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The installer for macOS hasn’t been tested by the developer. Keep in mind that only 64-bit plugin host applications are supported. Also, you will need a CPU that supports AVX extensions (roughly speaking, models from 2011 and newer).

It needs a processor that supports avx commands too so older CPUs may be a no no. My third been i5 didn’t see it…

Oh you’re right, I forgot to mention that. I added the info to the article. Btw, you meant 3rd gen i5, right?

Absolutely amazing plugin! This thing can sound so complex and expensive, it is unbelievable you can have it for free. Having control over all the delays/diffusers separately makes it possible to create spaces and reflections not possible with any other reverb plugin, both free or commercial. I mean it! Top notch stuff!

Total nerdgasm. In all that is good (tweakability) and bad (headscratching at first glance) about it. Wuvely.

It seems like a capable reverb. If only it did not require those AVX instructions.
